Stop Network Rail using Langport Town Centre to transport heavy loads 28 times a day

To continue the embankment work on the main line, Network Rail propose to send their Heavy Goods Vehicles through Langport town centre. This will have a considerable impact over an estimated four-week period beginning next week.

The lorry movements as described by Network Rail are large and frequent: two lorries undertaking three trips per hour, assuming an eight-hour working day, Bow Bridge, Bow Street, Cheapside and North Street would expect to see forty-eight HGV movements per day.

Langport Town Council has tasked Network Rail to re-route the trucks without success, and now the council is appealing to our MP to intervene.

Air pollution, dust, traffic chaos and potential damage to the structure of the bridge and roadways would always be a problem but throughout one of the biggest tourist months for the local economy it will be especially so.
